The email marketing software market is highly competitive. GetResponse is one such company in the field, and they’ve been operating since 1998. They claim to be “the world’s easiest all-in-one online marketing platform.” Their marketing tools are available in 24 languages, which is unique. They have offices in Poland, the U.S., Canada, Malaysia, and Russia to support their 350,000+ customers.
Alongside email marketing services, GetResponse offers marketing automation, landing pages, opt-in forms, webinar, customer relationship management (CRM), and e-commerce functionality. GetResponse University has free courses on email marketing, list building, and CRM for small businesses. Separately, they offer digital marketing certificates in five marketing disciplines and charge $199 a course.

GetResponse Affiliate Program
Given how competitive the email marketing landscape is, many businesses have affiliate marketing programs to drive more sales. GetResponse has two affiliate programs; an in-house program and a program on Commission Junction (CJ). Also, they have a partner program for digital marketing agencies who manage campaigns for their clients. Let’s review the pros and cons of the program.
GetResponse offers two different programs, and affiliates can opt-in to one or both. Most companies have only one affiliate program, which doesn’t give publishers a choice. GetReponse is available on CJ, a top-rated affiliate network with excellent tracking and reporting.
Affiliates can earn recurring and one-time commissions. The in-house program pays a 33 percent recurrent commission on each paid account. The recurring payout will last for as long as the customer continues to pay. If the customer upgrades to a plan with a higher payment, your commission increases too. The CJ program pays $135 for every sale.
Programs have a 120-day cookie, which is excellent because sales are rarely immediate, and it takes time to nurture leads. GetResponse provides an above average conversion period compared to the 30 to 60-day cookies that many other programs feature. Their 30-day free trial helps to convert prospects into customers by giving them time to test the platform.
Deep linking is available for both programs.
Deep linking is the practice by which an affiliate creates a link to a specific page on the merchant’s site. For example, instead of using a generic homepage affiliate link, I deep link to an article that relates to my post. GetResponse gives you the ability to create links to any page on their website. I deep link frequently, and it should be standard. However, some affiliate managers—usually inexperienced managers—don’t enable the function. Leads and sales are lost without deep linking.
GetResponse has very impressive marketing materials, which are available in multiple languages. They cover all the bases.
- Banners and text ads
- Email message templates
- Email signature text
- A company logo pack
Affiliates get a dedicated affiliate manager and support because “even experts sometimes need advice.” Also, GetReponse has an in-depth FAQ page. I like that publishers can access the GetResponse customer team. In some programs I participate in, it’s near impossible to contact the affiliate manager or get a response promptly. It’s surprising how something so practical is frequently absent.
Anyone can signup. The signup process is uncomplicated and approval times on CJ are quick. Most affiliate programs are open to anyone joining, but a small percentage only allow existing customers to participate, for example, ActiveCampaign. Affiliate marketing is a game of addition and inclusion, not subtraction and exclusion.
GetResponse is no longer an “it” platform. Their products and features are somewhat disorganized on their website, and I wonder how their webinar offering competes with specialist webinar marketing companies. They appear to be a step behind companies like Benchmark, MailerLite, and MailChimp who offer similar or better features. Instead, GetResponse is falling to a second-tier status and down in the dumps with companies like Campaigner, VerticalResponse, and StreamSend. Reviews for GetResponse are lukewarm and hover around four out of five stars, which suggest there is room for improvement.
An affiliate program is only as strong as the product or service behind it. Kudos to GetResponse for their affiliate program, but they should pay equal attention to their website design and branding. For example, their website is slow and the homepage is busy on top of dated web design practices.
GetResponse doesn’t offer a free plan. Free plans are common and much better than free trials. Free accounts are useful to get customers “hooked” and to increase conversion rates to paid plans. Benchmark, MailerLite, SendinBlue, and many others offer free accounts.
Email Marketing Affiliate Programs
Many email marketing businesses have affiliate programs. One exception that comes to mind is MailChimp, but they’re not an affiliate-friendly platform anyways. If the GetResponse program isn’t to your liking, check out these programs. Merchants typically list their affiliate programs in menus found at the top or bottom of pages.
